Which island, which lagoon, which boat. Answered with prices.
Tahiti has the airport and the cheapest days out. Moorea is a short ferry from it. Bora Bora costs more and knows it. Every tour worth booking across the islands, with what it charges a head.
One day out per island

3Tahiti5 Hours Tahiti Island Tour – West and East CoastBoth coasts in five hours, blowholes and a waterfall stop.
Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and the two nobody plans for.
Tahiti lands you and runs cheapest. Moorea is the ferry ride you will wish was longer. Bora Bora is the splurge everyone budgets around. Raiatea and Rangiroa are where the sailing and the diving go.
In French Polynesia the day is decided by the boat.
A lagoon safari is a long, slow day of rays, reef sharks and a lunch stop on a sandbank. A snorkel cruise is the shorter version with the better fish. A jet ski puts you in charge of where it goes. Pick the shape of the day first, then the island.
The days out most travellers in French Polynesia end up on.
Every tour we have reviewed →Six-hour snorkel days off Moorea, the full lagoon circuit at Bora Bora, and one very long drive round Tahiti. These carry more travellers than anything else here.

Behind the beach, Moorea and Tahiti go almost vertical.
Pineapple terraces, the Belvedere lookout over two bays, a valley track that ends under a waterfall. Half a day in a 4WD or on a quad buys the half of these islands that the lagoon photographs leave out.
Nobody does Bora Bora and Moorea on the same day.
Every tour on this site starts and finishes on one island. Moving between them is a flight out of Papeete or the Moorea ferry, booked separately, and either one eats half a day. Which is why a first trip usually reads like this.
A day out at Tahiti prices, and the same day at Bora Bora prices.
The same kind of day changes price with the island it leaves from. Every tour on the site, grouped by what one person actually pays.
Three days out that only French Polynesia sells.
Reefs and rum exist all over the Pacific. Lunch on your own sandbank, a boat under the heaviest wave in the world and a legal swim beside a humpback do not.

Lunch on a motu
A motu is one of the sand islets strung along the reef that rings each island. Boats stop at one in the middle of the day, the crew grills what they caught on the way over, and for two hours the place is yours because nobody lives on it. The water at the edge stays knee-deep for a long way out.

Teahupo’o from the channel
On Tahiti’s south coast the road simply stops, and a few hundred metres offshore the swell stands up over shallow coral and throws itself forward. That is Teahupo’o. Boats sit in the channel beside it when the south swell is running; on a flat day the same trip is a quiet ride to a village with one way in and out.

Swimming with humpbacks
Humpbacks come up from the Antarctic to calve in this water, and French Polynesia is one of the few places where getting in with them is allowed, with a guide and a fixed distance. Mothers and calves rest close inshore where it is calm. The season runs roughly August to October, and the boats fill inside it.

The dry months in French Polynesia, and the ten weeks the whales are here.
May to October is the dry season: less rain, steadier trade winds and the clearest water for snorkelling. The humpbacks arrive around August and are gone by late October. November to April is hotter and wetter, the lagoon trips still run most days, and everything is easier to get on.
